Syrians in Greece celebrate the fall of Bashar Al-Assad.
A Syrian living in Greece, celebrates the fall of Assad, in Syntagma Square.
The feeling of relief was strong. Anyone passing through Syntagma Square on Sunday afternoon would feel it. About two hundred men, women and children from the 13-year war-torn Syria were cheering, singing, dancing to music and shouting slogans, celebrating the fall of Bashar Al-Assad, the -former president of Syria for 24 years.
People were waving the three-star Syrian flag with tears and big smiles of relief. “I can’t even describe it,” said a man from Syria who wished not to be named. “The future will not be easy, but we can start. There is no more dictatorship.”
Syria has been in civil war since 2011. A war that destroyed and forced people out of their homes.

Tens of thousands rallied at Syntagma Square, Sunday, Jan. 26, 2025, to demand a full investigation and exposure of the train collision, resulting in 57 casualties in Tempi in February of 2023. Their main slogan was “I don’t have Oxygen.”
